The NHS Constitution
What is the NHS Constitution?
The NHS Constitution sets out for the very first time the core values, principles and commitments of the NHS in one place. It states what patients, the public and staff can expect from the NHS - detailing a number of rights, responsibilities and key pledges.
The NHS Constitution reaffirms that the NHS belongs to us all and we all have a role to play in ensuring its continuing success.
At LPT we have pledged our commitment to the principles and values of the NHS Constitution. We are committed to providing our service users and staff with respect, dignity and the highest standards of care - values which are highlighted throughout the Constitution.
The NHS Constitution provides a vision for the future of the NHS which will form the basis of a new relationship between staff and patients - a relationship based on partnership, respect and shared commitment where everyone knows what they can expect from their NHS and what is expected of them.
The Constitution was written after almost a year long consultation and research with staff, patients and the public.
The Constitution is designed to safeguard the future of the NHS by setting out the fundamental purpose, principles and values of the NHS that can and must remain constant.
The NHS Constitution and the Handbook to the NHS Constitution - explains the rights and pledges in more detail. The NHS Constitution is available in a range of languages, an easy-read version, and audio copy.
