Introduction

Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect. These run throughout Our Pledge, which we have signed up as staff, managers and as an organisation.

March's Winner

March’s Valued Star is Pretty Mukungunugwa, community staff nurse. This is what happened when she received a surprise visit from chief executive, Dr Peter Miller.

Pretty was nominated in recognition of her going above and beyond to ensure that patients in the community were still treated during the recent winter weather conditions.

Jo Beeching said: "Our community staff faced many challenges during the recent wintery weather. Pretty went above and beyond on Saturday 3 March whilst working with the evening service who are based in the city. She agreed to go to Rutland, where we were informed that parts were impassable due to snow drifts, to visit two patients within the two hour required response time from our nursing service.

"She visited and did an excellent job for both patients and subsequently did not finish her shift until 1.40am, when she should have finished at 11pm. She praised the volunteer driver who took her there, for his commitment and time. Pretty said her only thoughts were getting to the patients and ensuring their comfort - a true credit to our team, service and organisation."

Pretty said: "I want to thank my team members. I've worked in many roles in England, but this is the first time I have been appreciated and it's down to my manager and lovely team."

How do the Valued Star Awards work?

One Valued Star is picked on a monthly basis from all those nominated during that month by our Executive Team. The winner is then announced the following month through a surprise presentation by Chief Executive Dr Peter Miller, who visits them in their place of work and presents a framed certificate.
