Introduction

Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect. These run throughout Our Pledge, which we have signed up as staff, managers and as an organisation.

August's Winner

August’s Valued Star is Gaynor Southin, health care support worker on Bosworth ward at the Bradgate Unit. This is what happened when she received a surprise visit from chief executive Dr Peter Miller.

Gaynor was nominated by a colleague in recognition of her enthusiasm and commitment to improving the patient experience.

Jon-Paul Vivers said: "Gaynor has been an absolute star in her commitment to the patient experience, showing respect for patients, being compassionate about their experience on the ward and how to improve things.

"She has taken a small idea around patient snacks and turned this into a regular event on the ward - involving patients in learning about healthy eating, life skills and meaningful activity. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she has brought together staff and patients. She has gone above and beyond in giving up her own time to make arrangements, obtain products and gain feedback to make her activity even better.

"Gaynor has successfully gained funding for extra equipment for patient use for her 'make in, not take out' activity. Her dedication is unparalleled and her sense of caring about patients and what they can achieve on the ward and supporting them to do this, whilst doing her regular work to a high standard, is just amazing! I'm so proud of her and she should be proud of herself!"

Gaynor said: “Thank you!”

How do the Valued Star Awards work?

One Valued Star is picked on a monthly basis from all those nominated during that month by our Executive Team. The winner is then announced the following month through a surprise presentation by Chief Executive Dr Peter Miller, who visits them in their place of work and presents a framed certificate.

The timeline for the awards and the dates for the monthly presentations is available.

Don't forget to let the person you're nominating know that you've nominated them - it is a great way to say thank you for all they do!
