Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect. These run throughout Our Pledge, which we have signed up as staff, managers and as an organisation.

November's Winner

November's Valued Stars are Dawn Hawkins and Abby Cave, who work for the Hospice at Home team. This is what happened when Dawn received a surprise visit from chief nurse/deputy chief executive Adrian Childs. 

Dawn and Abby were nominated by a colleague in recognition of how they went above and beyond during a difficult visit whilst ensuring that the quality of compassion and empathy was maintained. 

Unfortunately, Abby couldn't be present at the presentation, so the joint award was presented to Dawn on behalf of the both of them. 

Presenting Dawn with their signed Valued Star certificates and badges, Adrian said: "I am delighted to present you with this month's joint Valued Star award, thank you both for everything you do."

Nominating both, Vicky Scutts said: "A month ago, Dawn and Abby arrived at a patient home to provide care. Unfortunately the patient hadn't arrived from hospital ad the family member was incredibly angry about this. 

"The family member proceeded to behave in an extremely threatening manner. It was an incredibly frightening experience for the two staff, however they met this behaviour with amazing compassion and empathy. 

"They proceeded to diffuse this person's aggression by, despite their fear, talking calmly to the person and taking the time to listen to the causes of anger."

Dawn said: “It's a team effort, if it wasn't for these wonderful guys, I wouldn't have got through it. On behalf of myself and Abby, thank you”

Nominations are welcome for any member of staff, from any profession, service or team, or from service users, carers or other members of the public. Simply complete the form on this page.

How do the Valued Star Awards work?

One Valued Star is picked on a monthly basis from all those nominated during that month by our Executive Team. The winner is then announced the following month through a surprise presentation by Chief Executive Dr Peter Miller, who visits them in their place of work and presents a framed certificate.

The timeline for the awards and the dates for the monthly presentations is available.

It is important that if you are nominating someone for a Valued Star award, that you check they are available on the date of the scheduled presentation for that month. 

Don't forget to let the person you're nominating know that you've nominated them - it is a great way to say thank you for all they do!
