Valued Star Awards

Valued Star Awards Logo

Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect. These run throughout Our Pledge, which we have signed up at staff, managers and as an organisation.

December's Winner

December’s Valued Star is Zahra Makhany, staff nurse for our adult mental health services. This is what happened when she received a surprise visit from chief executive, Dr Peter Miller.

Zahra was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of her gold standard care and for always going the extra mile to ensure that patients are put first.

Saskya Falope said: "Zahra is one of the most hardworking and compassionate nurses I have ever come across. She is always willing to help anybody who needs it and goes that extra mile on a daily basis - nothing is ever too much trouble and she does it all with a smile on her face. Recently my ward went through some changes and although Zahra doesn't work on the ward she agreed to help out. She stayed late and worked so hard to make sure it all went smoothly and made sure everything was done in the best interest of the patients. Zahra is a shining example of the Trust values and providing gold standard care."

Hayley Winrow added: "Ashby ward recently changed from a female ward to an all male ward. This was a highly stressful time but Zahra was on-hand to support the ward and went above and beyond her duty to make sure that paperwork was in place and that the patients were calm and settled. She supported staff with processes and was on-hand to provide peer support to her colleagues. She deserves the Valued star because on a daily basis she shows the Trust values and always put the patients first!"

Zahra said: "Thank you to whoever nominated me."
