Introduction

Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect.

September's Winner

September’s Valued Star is Joe Smith, admin assistant at the Leicestershire Recovery College. This is what happened when he received a surprise visit from chief executive, Dr Peter Miller.

Joe was nominated by his colleagues in recognition of the time and energy he puts into making new and old students feel as comfortable and welcome as possible at the Recovery College.

Emma Gartland said: "The whole team wanted to nominate Joe to acknowledge his commitment and the important role he plays within the college. He is the first point of contact for many students as they walk through the door and he is often the reason many students commit to attend and return to the college. He meets and greets students with so much warmth and compassion.

"We are currently taking part in a Recollect study (Nottingham University Institute of Mental Health) which has involved student interviews. Feedback from these interviews so far has highlighted how their experience of the college has been greatly enhanced partly as a result of Joe's welcoming approach.

"We have received this positive feedback consistently over the past four years - he is a great asset to the college and although his role is admin assistant he puts time and energy into making new and old students feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. He is professional and treats everyone who walks through the door with great dignity and compassion. We are very proud of him and we would like him to know this."

Joe said: "I would like to say thank you to all the team here at the Leicestershire Recovery College and for their support in allowing me to do my absolute best at my job. I am overwhelmed to be awarded with the Valued Star award."

How do the Valued Star Awards work?

One Valued Star is picked on a monthly basis from all those nominated during that month by our Executive Team. The winner is then announced the following month through a surprise presentation by Chief Executive Dr Peter Miller, who visits them in their place of work and presents a framed certificate.
