Audiology for Familes, Young People and Children's Services (Paediatric)
What Does Our Service Do?
Our Paediatric Audiology Service provides hearing tests for all children who meet one or more of our routine risk criteria or where there is a concern raised about their hearing. We can test children from the age of 6 months (provided they are able to sit unsupported) up to the age of 16 years (or 19 years if they attend Special School). We also routinely screen all five year olds in school for hearing problems. Our team includes paediatric audiologists and hearing screeners. The service is delivered in collaboration with the University Hospitals of Leicester and Education Departments of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
How Does Our Service Work?
Parents and carers whose children are due for routine hearing screening tests will be notified by the school, usually at the start of the school year. Tests are carried out in schools during school time. Parents and carers whose children have been specially referred to the service would expect to receive a letter through the post inviting them to call and make an appointment to visit one of our community clinics.
Every year the team carries out hearing screening for approximately 11,000 children in schools, and around 6,000 targeted diagnostic tests are conducted in clinics throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Our Service is delivered from:
- Community Hospitals
- Health Centres
- Schools
