Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Chlamydia Screening

What Does Our Service Do?

We are part of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme, offering young people under the age of 25 an opportunity to take a free test for Chlamydia. Chlamydia is the most common Sexually Transmitted Infection in this age group. People can access our service from a wide range of venues across the City, County and in Rutland. Testing is available at local doctor’s surgeries, pharmacies, colleges, and youth clubs as well as from us when we are out and about at various locations.

How Does Our Service Work?

We have 18 core members of staff. Our administration team handles all the results and have daily contact with patients by phone, and our facilitators deliver the Chlamydia testing and sexual health promotion. In an average year it is possible to have processed more than 30,000 Chlamydia tests.

Taking a Chlamydia test is free and confidential, and you can choose where you would like to test. Testing is painless and you do not need to be examined, you only need to pee in a pot. You alone will be told of your test result, usually by text or an email. Should you test positive for Chlamydia, you will be offered support and advice of where you can access free treatment (a single dose of antibiotics). We also need to ask about your sexual partners so they can be tested and have treatment too, to avoid you being re-infected.

We are based at St Peter’s Health Centre in Leicester, but we also travel to numerous venues across the City and the County to offer testing and information.
