Choices Young Person’s Contraceptive and Sexual Health Service

What Does Our Service Do?

Choices - young people’s sexual health and contraceptive service, contributes to the reduction in teenage conception and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates of under 25’s within Leicester City with clinics in easily accessible locations.

The service encourages young people to take responsibility for and make informed choices regarding their own sexual health, offering contraception, free condom supplies and pregnancy testing. Advice given is confidential, unbiased, sympathetic and friendly. The safety of our clients is at the forefront of all consultations.

The small nursing team prescribe contraception, fit and remove the contraceptive implant, test and treat STI’s and discuss unplanned pregnancy and onward referral.

How Does Our Service Work?

At a Choices clinic a nurse would offer you friendly and unbiased advice regarding contraception and sexual health. She can provide prescriptions for contraception, free condoms, pregnancy testing and discussion, fitting and removal of the contraceptive implant, testing and treating for infections.

Our service is confidential, this means that you can tell anyone about your visit, but we won't even if you are under 16. The only reason we might have to pass on any information would be to protect you or someone else from serious harm. If this were our concern then we would always try to discuss this with you first.

The team are made up of three qualified nurses, one health care assistance/admin support worker and a manager.

In 2010/11 Choices was used by 1,573 young people. This total was made up of:

Under 25 yrs (97%)

Under 16: 20%
