Community Hospital and City Inpatient Beds

There are 12 wards situated around the county in 8 hospitals providing rehabilitation, palliative and end of life care and sub-acute care. All wards work in the same way and the referral criteria is the same for all hospitals.

Medical cover is provided by Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) with consultants visiting the wards twice weekly.

Ward 1 at St Luke’s Hospital and Ward 1 at Coalville Community Hospital are both stroke units caring for patients following the acute phase of a stroke.

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are provided to all inpatients cared for in a general community hospital inpatient bed. Multidisciplinary care is provided in partnership with other professions and providers.

All patients receive appropriate therapy assessment including consideration of their psychological and cognitive needs, provision of goal led intervention planned with the patient, together with holistic discharge planning. Care is planned, managed and overseen by qualified staff with the support of unqualified assistants and technical instructors. Specialist OT and physiotherapy is provided at the two stroke units.

We also provide inpatient rehabilitation in the city:
