Diet, Health and Activity in Leicester (DHAL)


 
What Does Our Service Do?

The DHAL programme is a 10 week adult (over 18 years) weight management programme targeting the South Asian Community. It combines Dietitian led nutrition education and an hour of physical activity with a level 3 instructor each week. The nutrition sessions cover areas such as balanced eating, portion sizes, takeaways, and South Asian foods etc. The exercise sessions focus on weight loss, improving muscular strength (body toning) and heart health. The programme has supported over 150 people to lose and manage their weight better.


How Does Our Service Work?

Any person attending the DHAL programme would get expert advice around diet and exercise in a group setting. The sessions are interactive and all participants are expected to take part in the physical activity part of the programme.

This is an active programme where participants are given a 5% weight loss goal and are expected to demonstrate commitment towards achieving this set target. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.

There are two programmes delivered four times per year and each programme has on average of 15 people.

  • You can self refer by contacting us directly.
  • Be referred from a health professional i.e. doctor, dietitian, nurse etc
