Interpreters, vision, hearing and translations

If you don't speak English...

...or you're not confident speaking English, please tell us!  We can provide interpreters.  It doesn't matter if you're a patient or carer, you are entitled to an interpreter if one would help you.  We don't expect that your relatives or friends should act as interpreters.

You will be asked by a member of staff whether or not you need an interpreter and then they will arrange one for you.  There is no charge for this service.

British Sign Language (BSL)

If you use sign language, please tell us so we can provide a signer. Staff can arrange signers and they will normally ask you if you would like one.  If, however, you have not been asked, but you would prefer a signer, let a member of staff know as soon as you can.

Translation service

If you would like a document translating, please contact the Integrated Equality Service.

Do you have difficulties with your vision?

We can help in different ways:

  • we can provide information in large print
  • we can give you an audio recording of explanations and instructions
  • we can provide information in Braille.
