This accessibility statement applies to www.leicspart.nhs.uk

This website is run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website in a way that suits your communication needs. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • access PDF documents and translate them using a screen reader.

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible and we will be working towards addressing this:

  • the default colours for some headings and links have a poor contrast ratio between the foreground and background
  • some images do not have alternative captions
  • some page content requires vertical scrolling when content is resized
  • the top level hover menu does not open when using a keyboard
  • shortcut triggers have not been set up
  • some PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • live video streams do not have captions.

Feedback and contact information

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, please contact: lpt.communications@nhs.net.

If you need information on this website in a different format, like an accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille, please:

More information on how to get in touch with us is available on our contact us page.

Interpreters, vision, hearing and translations

If you don’t speak English…

…or you’re not confident speaking English, please tell us! We can provide interpreters. It doesn’t matter if you’re a patient or carer, you are entitled to an interpreter if one would help you. We don’t expect that your relatives or friends should act as interpreters.

You will be asked by a member of staff whether or not you need an interpreter and then they will arrange one for you. There is no charge for this service.

British Sign Language (BSL)

If you use sign language, please tell us so we can provide a signer. Staff can arrange signers and they will normally ask you if you would like one. If, however, you have not been asked, but you would prefer a signer, let a member of staff know as soon as you can.

Do you have difficulties with your vision?

We can help in different ways:

  • we can provide information in large print
  • we can give you an audio recording of explanations and instructions
  • we can provide information in Braille.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some dropdown links below the main menu cannot be accessed via the keyboard and some incorrect sub-navigation links appear when viewing the content at 200% zoom and using a keyboard to navigate across the website. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard.
  • There are focus issues with the hamburger menu at 200% zoom on a number of pages on our website. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible and WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus .
  • On the homepage of our website, there are issues with the ‘Care to join our family?’ carousel relating to the incorrect use of ARIA attributes. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
  • The share button at the top of our Contact page and some headings on the page are not available at 200% and 400% zoom. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow.
  • There is no visible focus on the ‘Submit’ buttons for each of the forms on our feedback page. There are also issues with the focus order on this page. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible and WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order .
  • Some elements on the website do not have sufficient colour contrast. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast.
  • Some images contain text and are not accessible via a screen reader. This fails WCAG 1.4.5 Images of Text. We have completed staff training on this and will avoid using images with text on the site, particularly in the news section, wherever possible.
  • There is no keyboard accessible method to bypass repetitive content, this fails WCAG 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks.
  • Some links are partially cut off when viewed at 200% zoom. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text.
  • The focus order for some elements on a page can make navigation difficult with a keyboard, this fails WCAG 2.4.3.
  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
  • Some pages on the website, when viewed in zoom and mobile view, do not correctly display all information on the page. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow.
  • Many of documents in our policy library are not accessible PDFs. This fails WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled, WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships: Tables, WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text content and others. We are preparing staff training to ensure future PDFs uploaded to the site are compliant and will seek to update certain policies into accessible PDFs during 2024 onwards.

We are currently working with our website developer to investigate fixes for the above accessibility issues. Work on the fixes will begin in February 2024 and the majority of issues should be addressed by March 2024.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

The screen reader software on our website allows people with a visual impairment to access PDF documents.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are in the process of organising an accessibility audit for 2024. Once this is complete we will develop an accessibility roadmap, which will outline how and when we plan to improve the accessibility of this website.
