Leicestershire Psycho-oncology Service (LPOS)

The Leicestershire Psycho-oncology Service provides psychological and psychiatric care to patients who have a current or recent diagnosis of cancer that is impacting upon their psychological wellbeing.

The service aims to offer a comprehensive service to patients with psychological and/or psychiatric complications of cancer. It works jointly with health professionals in improving communication in client care and supportive follow-up cancer care and offers advice, education and training to all staff dealing with the psychological and/or psychiatric complications of cancer.

The service is provided by a core group of clinical staff, comprised of a consultant psychiatrist with expertise in psycho-oncology and liaison psychiatry and two mental health practitioners, supported by a secretary.

Referral criteria

Adults aged 18 years or over who are suffering psychological and/or psychiatric conditions secondary to their diagnosis of cancer, and who are registered with a GP in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland,
