Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Learning Disability Service

Our CAMHS Learning Disability Service supports young people with a moderate to profound learning disability who are also experiencing mental health difficulties and/or associated behaviours.

We provide input for young people with a moderate to profound learning/intellectual disability (as defined within ICD10/ICD11) presenting with mental health and/or associated behaviours. Input is provided through our outpatient service which can be supported for intense/urgent work via our Outreach service. Referrals are via health and social service professionals and all other avenues need to have been tried before consideration into this specialist mental health service. Assessment for neurodevelopmental conditions in primary school aged young people is undertaken by paediatric services at least in the first instance.

As part of the service we provide, when necessary, we have outreach staff who can provide short term intensive input within the home to enable parents / carers to implement strategies advised by their lead professional / specialist clinician with which they are struggling to undertake without direct input.
