Forensic community learning disability team
The specialist forensic community learning disability team (SFCLD team) provides health services for individuals with a mental disorder and/or learning disability (including neurodevelopmental disorders) who pose, or have posed, risks to others – and where that risk is usually related to their diagnosis.
The service is underpinned by the Good Lives Model with a holistic approach to offender rehabilitation and supporting people to live a valued and meaningful life.
The team currently support:
- transition planning and discharge for people from inpatient hospital into community settings within Leicester.
- individuals who are living in the community who are increasing in risk or have had contact with the criminal justice system to reduce the need for hospital admission or incarceration and to provide support in the community environment.
The service can also support in the following areas (not an exhaustive list):
- Risk management (specialist risk assessments, risk management plans, working with external teams e.g, probation/PAVE)
- Legal Frameworks (DoLS, CTO, S17(3))
- Specialist forensic training for community providers/staff
- Specialist Risk Assessments (e.g, sexual offenders, violence and aggression, stalking)
- Supervision and Support/Care planning/PBS approach
Referral criteria
- have a conviction for an offence
- have had an allegation of offending made against them
- are considered to be at significant risk of offending
- present a risk of serious harm to the public
