Guidance for primary care partners: urgent help

If the individual is presenting in acute mental health distress (but there is no immediate risk to life) and needs urgent help, they may need secondary mental health support.

You can call the Mental Health Central Access Point (CAP), they will check with you that they meet the criteria for LPT’s secondary care mental health services and they will also provide advice and guidance:

0808 800 3302 (number will be changing)

Please try to call with the individual with you, as this will help CAP provide the correct advice more quickly.

If this is not possible, send a prism referral.

Make sure you put as much information in the referral as possible, e.g. contact details for you and the individual.

CAP will call the individual directly within 4 – 24 hours, based on urgency.
