If you or someone else is in a mental health crisis or at immediate risk of serious harm or danger, for any reason, you must contact emergency services:

Emergency: get help now

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, including a mental health emergency, call 999 or go to an Accident and Emergency (A&E) department right now.

A mental health emergency can include feeling unable to stay safe, thinking about ending your life, or being at risk of serious harm.

If you cannot do this yourself, ask someone nearby to help you. Not all hospitals have an A&E department, so check first if you can.

Urgent mental health help (not an emergency)

If it is not an immediate emergency but you need urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and press option 2. You will speak to a trained call handler who can give you advice and support.

This service is free, confidential, and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is for all ages, including parents or carers who need help for a child or young person.

You can also use the online service at https://111.nhs.uk/ and follow the instructions. It is run by the same trained staff and is also free, confidential, and open all day and night.

Text or online chat options

If you would rather not talk on the phone, you can text 07480 635199 or start a chat at https://chathealth.nhs.uk/start-a-chat/h/LLRChatMentalHealth/

This service is run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust for people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. It is for all ages, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you should get a reply within 4 hours.

Important

NHS 111 and text or chat services are not emergency services. If there is an immediate, serious, or life‑threatening situation, including a mental health emergency, you must call 999 or go to A&E.
