I’m pleased to share the latest updates from LPT, reflecting our ongoing strong performance and progress against our key priorities. This is reflected in our latest NHS National Oversight Framework ranking, with a good Segment 2 position, and a move from 27th to 23rd out of the 61 community and mental health trusts in the country.

We also give more detail about inspections from Healthwatch and our regulator the CQC in this latest newsletter.

You can learn more about our achievements by joining our annual general meeting at 4pm on Tuesday September 8, 2026.

LPT celebrates hat-trick of ‘Good’ CQC ratings

Our Trust has achieved a hat-trick of ‘Good’ ratings from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with three consecutive positive inspection reports published in March and April this year. The latest, published on 27 April, rated LPT’s community mental health services for adults of working age as ‘Good’ – a significant turnaround following a ‘Requires Improvement’ rating at the previous inspection in May 2025.

Inspectors highlighted that waiting times had been cut by 62 per cent, from an average of 133 days to 51 days, and that patient feedback was “overwhelmingly positive”, with one person describing staff as “a credit to the nation and the NHS.”

The hat-trick is completed by ‘Good’ ratings for specialist community mental health services for children and young people (earlier in April) and the mental health crisis and health-based place of safety service (March).

Top marks for cleanliness and care environment at LPT

Our Trust has again been recognised among the best-performing providers in England, achieving a 100% cleanliness score for the third consecutive year in the 2025 Patient‑Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE).

LPT is one of only five out of 54 community and mental health trusts to secure full marks, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of safe, high‑quality environments for patients.

The Trust also delivered consistently high scores across all key domains, including 99.97% for condition, appearance and maintenance and 98.7% for privacy, dignity and wellbeing, ranking second nationally in both categories within its peer group.

PLACE assessments, conducted across more than 1,000 sites in England and led by teams with at least 50% patient representation, are a key indicator of how well services meet the expectations of patients, carers and communities.

Praise from Healthwatch

Our community hospital wards demonstrated consistently high standards during a recent inspection from Leicester and Leicestershire Healthwatch.

The inspectors visited one ward each at Loughborough Hospital and Coalville Community Hospital, and two wards at the Evington Centre. Healthwatch recognised our staff’s hard work and high standards at all these community hospital wards.

We are particularly pleased that 100 per cent of patients they spoke to were either ‘happy’ or ‘very happy’ with the care they received.

Supporting people while they wait – While You Wait launch

LPT has formally launched While You Wait, a dedicated area on its website providing trusted NHS‑approved guidance and support for people who are waiting for mental health, ADHD and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). The resource has been developed in direct response to patient feedback, ensuring people can access clear, reliable information and practical support while they are waiting for care.

Co‑developed with NHS clinicians and informed by people with lived experience, including young people who have used CAMHS and individuals with ADHD, the resource brings together practical advice, wellbeing guidance and signposting in one place. It is designed to help people feel more informed and supported during what can be a difficult period, while being clear that it does not replace clinical assessment, treatment or medication.

The launch was aligned with Mental Health Awareness Week, reinforcing a shared system commitment to improving how people are supported throughout their care journey. This is particularly important in the context of sustained demand across mental health, CAMHS and ADHD services. Alongside ongoing work to improve access and reduce waiting times – recognised in recent CQC reports – While You Wait provides an immediate, practical way to support people while they are waiting.
