A spokesperson for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) said: “Sadly, we can confirm that eight patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for COVID-19, have so far died. Two of those have been announced today.

One patient was in her nineties and died at St Luke’s Hospital in Market Harborough on 20 April. The other was in her late eighties and died at Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital on 28 April. Both had underlying health conditions.

The families of both patients have been informed, and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this very difficult and distressing time.”

Background

  • The Trust will not be giving out any further information on these patients.
  • The media are asked to respect the wishes of the families and the interests of staff at the two hospitals to avoid any disruption to operational services.
