An online platform that offers a range of free courses to support parents, carers, families and professionals is celebrating its two-year anniversary, by reaching more than 2,000 people.

The Solihull Approach courses, put together by NHS professionals and clinical psychologists, address a wide range of topics that are faced by parents and carers when raising children; from pregnancy support to understanding a teenager’s brain – and everything in between. They provide advice and support about physical and mental health, understanding children’s feelings, how to build better relationships – as well as issues that affect children with additional needs, learning disabilities and autism. The courses are available in 108 languages, with optional voiceovers in English and Urdu.

Anthony Michaelides, business support manager at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, which partnered with the Solihull Approach to launch the courses across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) in 2023, said: “The Solihull Approach courses help adults to better relate to their child’s experiences, be more confident in how they can respond and support their child’s development and emotional health.

“Parents who have completed the courses have told us they have loved them. Alongside our Health for Under 5s, Health for Kids and Health for Teens websites, our Healthy Together Helpline, ChatHealth text messaging service and Healthy Together health visiting and school nursing service, the Solihull Approach courses are part of a range of information and support to help families improve their wellbeing, understanding of each other and their relationships.”

All Solihull Approach courses are free to access for anyone with an LLR postcode. Once a person signs up for an account, they have lifetime access, including to any new courses that are added.
