Organisations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are marking this year’s World Mental Health Day (Friday 10 October 2025) with a number of events and activities to raise awareness of the range of support available for people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Events include an open day at the Peepul Centre, focusing on free health checks and screening, information about services available in the local community as well as support from the local NHS and councils.

Dr Santosh Bhanot, Director and Head of Health at the Peepul Centre explained: “We’ve brought together the local health experts, organisations and voluntary sector partners to let the public know about different health topics and what’s available for them. As well as expert guidance, the community can benefit from free on-the-spot health checks and screenings, helping to make wellbeing more accessible to all.”

“Jit Parekh from the NHS will be sharing insights on the new Right Care Right Place campaign, which makes it easier for people to get the right help quickly for non-life-threatening situations through just two simple steps. It’s a welcome initiative, as some people don’t always know the best place to start when they need support from the NHS.”

Another leading charity, Jamila’s Legacy, are hosting a drop in event from 2-5pm at Thurnby Lodge on Thurncourt Road where, as well as mental health and wellbeing support, they will be offering free blood pressure checks with Vitality Pharmacy.

Jamila’s Legacy CEO, Rehana Sidat, said: “This event is focused on showing local residents what support is out there for their physical and mental health. We have lots of partners such as Age UK, Clockwise Credit Union and Freedom4Girls coming to showcase their service. We look forward to welcoming people on the day and helping them out with whatever they need.”

Tanya Hibbert, Executive Director for Mental Health at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) added: “Access to services is such an important topic to focus on for World Mental Health Day. We know that people can struggle to find the support they need, or are not aware of changes and improvements, so these events that act as a one-stop shop are invaluable for local communities. Our teams will be supporting these and many other events on the day and following weeks.”
