School Aged Immunisation Service
The School Aged Immunisation Service supports and delivers the School Aged Immunisation Programme across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The service provides immunisations for children and young people who are in school or home educated. Vaccinations are provided either in schools or through community clinics and in some cases, through home visits.
The service is provided and supported by a team of skilled and experienced staff. Our immunisation nurses have experience in all aspects of immunisation and vaccination.
The service offers the following immunisation programmes:
- Seasonal flu vaccination to protect healthy children against flu (in school years Reception – year 11)
- Seasonal flu vaccination to protect children in special schools against flu
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to protect young people against various forms of cancer (offered from year 8)
- 3-in-1 teenage booster and Meningitis ACWY vaccinations to protect young people against tetanus, diphtheria and polio and meningitis strains A, C, W and Y (offered from year 9)
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination for under immunised young people (offered from year 8 and by invitation only)
Our service is delivered from:
- All schools in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
- Community clinics
- Home visits only for children with an assessed health need.
The service engages with more over 480 schools, academies and educational settings in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to ensure the offer is made to all eligible children on roll. The service will revisit schools and will offer additional opportunities throughout the academic year for secondary school aged vaccinations.
Referral criteria
The team routinely collate consent information and offer additional visits to school to vaccinate young people as part of the secondary school aged vaccination programmes.
Where a young person is not in school, community clinics are offered. Should young people have an assessed health need, we offer home visits. Please contact the service directly to request an assessment.
Criteria exclusion
Our highly trained clinical team will review all records to assess the suitability for vaccination, including contraindication and previous vaccination history. Please note: the flu vaccination is offered annually.

- You will require a code for your child’s school. Click here to find your school’s code.
- For those children and young people who are home educated, please complete the consent form using the link above. When prompted for a school code use the following based on your Local Authority:
- For those living in Leicester City Council: LE888888

- For those living in Rutland County Council: LE888886

Completing the online consent form:
Top tip: when completing the online form, make sure you haven’t included extra spaces or punctuation around the school code, and that when you confirm your email address it matches the one originally submitted.
What conditions do you cover
Vaccinations provided are free, safe and effective. They are the:
- Flu vaccination, which protects against seasonal flu and serious complications such as bronchitis, ear infections and pneumonia – and it will also help to prevent the spread of flu and protect others who are vulnerable.
- the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, which protects young people against the human papillomavirus which can cause various forms of cancer.
- the 3-in-1 teenage booster vaccination, which protects against tetanus, diphtheria, polio (Td/IPV). These diseases all have the potential to be deadly and can cause breathing issues, affect the nervous system and cause serious damage.
- the meningitis ACWY vaccination, which protects against meningitis types A, C, W and Y that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) and septicaemia (blood poisoning).
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination, which protects against three serious and highly infectious illnesses: measles, mumps and rubella (German measles). These conditions can lead to serious problems such as meningitis, hearing loss, and problems during pregnancy.
