If you need urgent help

If your mental or emotional state quickly gets worse and you feel like you can’t cope with how you’re feeling, this can be called a ‘mental health crisis’. In this situation, it is important to get help quickly.

24/7 support is available over the phone, call NHS 111, mental health option. This number is open 24 hours a day and is totally free and confidential. Click here to find out more

You can also text 0748 063 5199 and we will aim to get back to you within four hours.

You should still call 999 or go to A&E if you have an immediate, life-threatening emergency requiring mental or physical health assistance.

The five ways to wellbeing

Evidence suggests there are 5 steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Trying these things could help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life.

Connect

Spend time with people, build relationships, and engage with your community. This can be through social events, hobbies, or just talking to a friend.

Be active

Engage in physical activity that you enjoy. This can include walking, dancing, gardening, or any other form of exercise.

Take notice

Be more aware of your surroundings and the present moment. Pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, and the world around you.

Keep learning

Set new goals and challenge yourself. Learn a new skill, take a class, read a book, or explore a new hobby to boost your sense of achievement.

Give

Do something for others. This can be a formal act of volunteering or a simple, informal act of kindness, like giving a compliment or helping a neighbour.
