Working in our Community Health Service directorate

Our community hospitals are located across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, giving colleagues the opportunity to work in a variety of settings close to the communities we serve. Each hospital has its own setting, way of working and patients offering a diverse and rewarding working environment.

Across our 13 wards – located within eight hospitals – teams provide a range of services, including sub-acute care, complex rehabilitation, and end of life care, supporting patients at important stages of their recovery and care journeys.

Our community hospitals bring together a wide range of professional roles, including nursing, therapy, medical and support staff, creating strong multidisciplinary teams focused on building compassionate care and wellbeing for all. Our wards are led and managed by ward sisters or charge nurses, supported by physiotherapy and occupational therapy leads. Colleagues work closely with advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) and consultants through twice-weekly ward visits, providing opportunities to learn from a contribute to a collaborative approach to patient care.

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are delivered based on individual patient need, ensuring patients receive timely assessments and interventions. Care is planned, managed, and overseen by registered nursing staff, supported by healthcare assistants and technical instructors. Working closely together, multidisciplinary teams deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and support positive outcomes for patients and their families.
