Specialist Autism Team

The Specialist Autism Team (SAT) is a multi-disciplinary team committed to supporting Autistic people, their families and other professionals to understand their Autism-related needs and make suitable adjustments to their care and support. The team provide support to Autistic people aged 14 and upwards, including adults.

The team offers psychoeducation about Autism, helping individuals to articulate their needs. This work facilitates the development of appropriate  packages of respectful care and support, reducing the likelihood that Autistic people may experience crises in their wellbeing. The team’s work may involve liaison and joint working with mental health services, education and social services to improve collaborative care and support.

Referral criteria

The SAT supports patients who are 14-years-old upwards, who have a formal diagnosis of autism and must consent to the referral. SAT does not accept referrals for people who are in current crisis.

Criteria exclusion

Person has a learning disability; Under 14s; current mental health crisis.

How to access this service

Referrals can be made by LPT clinicians, GPs or external partners (eg education or social services).

Referrals should be made on the Specialist Autism Team Referral Form Feb 2025. It is essential that the form is completed in full, otherwise it may be returned. Please discuss the referral with the person to be referred as we require their consent.
