Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV) Service

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV) Service provides early on-scene response to individuals aged 18 years and older and explores alternative safe and dignified care and intervention options for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in the community.

The core aim of the MHRV Service is to improve the timeliness, quality, comfort, and experience of the transport of individuals with mental health needs in the community, to reduce inappropriate demand and reliance on police or other emergency services, and to reduce avoidable conveyance to the emergency department.

The MHRV Service aims to respond to calls for mental health support for individuals in the community within two hours of referral.

It is expected such individuals would have no urgent physical health issues which require urgent interventions at an acute hospital and/or the emergency department.

The MHRV will offer ‘Hear and Treat’ mental health telephone screening, advice and support service and ‘See and Treat’ on-the-scene urgent face-to-face mental health advice, support and signposting as appropriate.

The MHRV Service is staffed by mental heath practitioners, such as registered mental health nurses and healthcare support workers with the expertise to provide person-centred mental health advice and support.
