Currently across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR), Covid-19 and Flu numbers remain low. Because of this we can reduce the wearing of Fluid Resistant Surgical Masks (FRSM) for all contacts (universally) in community hospitals.
From Thursday 28 March, all clinical and non-clinical areas can cease mask wearing unless individual patient’s infections require the wearing of FRSM or advised by the Infection Prevention and Control team due to an outbreak situation.
We continue to support staff who choose to wear a mask, where mask wearing is not essential, in any settings.
University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) have also reduced mask wearing where appropriate and we wish to align to ensure continuity across LLR.
The decision to wear face masks will continue to be regularly reviewed, based on national guidance, Covid-19 infection figures and staff sickness levels using the escalation/de-escalation tool.
Patients should continue to be offered a mask if they are severely immunosuppressed, are known to have Covid-19 or are symptomatic, or if there is an outbreak on the ward. Patient-use of masks will need to be risk assessed on admission to the ward.
