The Joy App – Social prescribing

A website which links you to local community services. You can search by service or by postcode for available services. This includes both paid and free services. Examples include foodbanks, mental health cafes, walking groups.

Adult social care

This service can facilitate you to stay independent through, for example:

  • Equipment/technology such as lifelines and home adaptations
  • Meals; if you are struggling to cook, you might want to consider Meals on Wheels
  • Find care at home; arrange your own support privately through a care agency and pay privately, or ask for an assessment of needs
  • Repairs, gardening and cleaning (direct line for social service handy person 0116 454 5120)

First Contact Plus

An online tool which helps adults in Leicestershire find information about a range of services in one place. Provides information and resources on housing, health, living independently, money advice, work, security etc (self referral or professional referral).

Medequip

If you have equipment from Medequip that you no longer need, or that needs fixing/replacing, please call to arrange collection/repair. You cannot order new equipment from Medequip yourself, a health professional would need to do this for you if appropriate.

Leicester Opcare

The Specialist Mobility Centre provides prosthetic, orthotic, and posture and mobility services.

If you have a wheelchair, a prosthetic or orthotics from Opcare, in need of repair, you can contact them directly.  You cannot self-refer to this service, your GP or therapist can make a referral if appropriate.

NHS Live Well

The Live Well NHS website provides useful information on a variety of topics, one of which is exercise. Here you can learn about the benefits of exercise, and you will also find a range of different basic exercises, including balance exercises, sitting exercises, strength exercises and flexibility exercises. Your therapist will advise if these exercises may be appropriate for you to complete.
