Volunteering for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT)

Who can volunteer?

We would like to hear from you if you are:

  • Over 16
  • Keen to develop your skills and gain experience
  • Enjoy helping people
  • Can give us a commitment of 2-5 hours per week for more than 6 months

Currently we are looking for volunteers in the following areas: 

Volunteer Assistant Psychologist – Rehabilitation Service

The Willows, Cordelia Close and Stewart House, Narborough

2 days or 15 hours weekly, to be reviewed at the end of 6 months.

Qualification required: Psychology Degree 2(1)

To assist qualified Psychologists to provide a psychological service to patients under the care of the rehabilitation service. The volunteer would not have any independent therapeutic contact with clients due to the nature of the placement. All work will be conducted under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.

To assist with psychological group programme under the supervision of a qualified psychologist- such as supervised administration of pre and post group measures.

Completing patient file reviews.

Supervised administration and scoring of psychometrics.

Assisting with the completion of historical items for HCR-20v3s and risk assessments.

Completing audits/ service evaluations under supervision.

To complete literature reviews in order to keep qualified psychologists up to date with evidence based practice.


Children’s Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Volunteer

3 volunteer places one in each of the following locations half a day per week.

Hinckley Health Centre

Loughborough hospital

Bridge Park Plaza, Thurmaston/Valentine Centre, Leicester

To support the clinical staff with tasks when they see the children for their therapy

As a volunteer working within the Children’s therapy team you would gain experience working within a children’s therapy team, gain awareness of resources for children with additional needs and experience of working within a healthcare team. There may be opportunities to shadow the therapists to gain some work experience in this area.


General gardening in a specific area

Bradgate Unit -Glenfield hospital site and Agnes Unit - Anstey Lane, Leicester

Hours - variable; minimum 1 hour a week

To support the Adult Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Divisions inpatient services with general gardening both on the wards as well as the off ward garden spaces.

Tasks include:

• General weeding

• Light digging

• Replanting

• Removal of debris

• Sweeping slabs

• Disposal of rubbish – bags provided by hospital

Supporting our wards to develop their own ward garden spaces to become a more therapeutic and recovery focused area.

Volunteer Service User Engagement

Monday to Friday, flexible hours

To provide support to a range of services within FYPC (Families, Young People and Children’s Service) for improved service user engagement, including accompanying practitioners to events to gain service user view, inputting data about service user view, and contributing to the evaluation of public health campaigns and other service user events.

Notice will be given of activity depending on the events and how much data there is to be collated.

Must be able to travel across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, but can travel to events from home with inputting of data to be completed at BPP (Bridge Park Plaza) in Thurmaston.


Access Support Volunteer

To support families to access a range of health professionals and children`s centre activities by accompanying them to and from appointments or activities at the children`s centre. Families may wish the volunteer to go into the appointment or activity with them in order to give them the confidence to speak or participate.

Hours –Monday to Friday varied depending on need from one hour a week to maximum of 6 hours.

Initially commencing in Beaumont Leys, Leicester but appointments may be across the city.


Resource Support Volunteer

Bridge Park Plaza in Thurmaston LE4 8PQ

Volunteer hours: variable, but minimum of 5-6 hours a week for minimum of 6 months

This is an opportunity to provide support to the Children’s Speech & Language Therapy Service

Tasks include photocopying, laminating, printing & toy cleaning.

Toy cleaning takes place at Trust venues around city & county so a car driver is preferred.


Safe Well Happy Volunteer

Various community areas starting with Charnwood at Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel

Hours are varied – each session is 2 hours

To support people with learning disabilities at community Safe, Well, Happy groups.

The groups are open to people with learning disabilities to socialise, take part in various activities including learning, getting active, volunteering and speak to someone for support with worries or issues.

Safe, well, happy can help people with learning disabilities be more independent, more connected to a social network and have a positive impact on health and well-being.

Tasks include:

• To support participants to engage fully in the activities.

• To provide a positive and enthusiastic approach to the role.

• To listen to people with learning disabilities and carers and signpost appropriately

• To plan and deliver an activity at the session (if you wish)

• To disclose any concerns reported to or observed to an appropriate member of LPT staff


Volunteer Receptionist – Physiotherapy clinic/waiting area (first floor)

Merlyn Vaz Medical Centre, Spinney Hill Rd, Leicester LE5 3GH

Weekdays, 9am till 3 pm (negotiable)

N.B this waiting area is on the first floor shared with Podiatry and Speech and Language

Role Purpose:

• Meet patients, check if they have an appointment, if yes ask to take a seat and wait whilst they notify the relevant physio by phone.

• If they have come to the wrong clinic then they can redirect them or provide our booking office phone number to rebook.


Learning & Development Volunteer

Education and Training Centre (behind the NSPCC training centre), Beaumont Leys, Leicester
Monday – Friday, 8.15 – 9.30 am
Monday – Friday, 12.45 – 2.00 pm

Would you like to gain experience in a training environment, including developing customer care skills and knowledge of training and education courses.

We are looking for volunteers to provide a friendly welcome to our delegates and visitors when they are arriving to our sites.

To complement the existing reception function and support L&D offer to those visiting our sites for training, meeting or events.

Also supporting L&D staff in ensuring that the training rooms and AV equipment is set up.


Volunteer Guitar Teacher

Mett Centre, 20 Lee Street, Leicester LE1 3RF

Would you like the opportunity to combine your musical skills with a chance to support adults with long and enduring mental health problems? We need a musician interested in improving the well-being of others.

No formal qualifications needed, just the ability to support clients of varying abilities (from complete beginner to experienced player).

Empathy and a sensitive approach to those with enduring mental health problems

Sessions can be arranged to suit volunteer’s availability between 10-4 weekdays.


Hinckley Tea Bar Assistant 

Location: Hinckley Health Centre, Hill St, Hinckley LE10 1DS

Flexible weekdays (especially Thursday afternoons & Friday anytime)

Role Purpose: To support the smooth running of the tea bar and providing a friendly face to those who use it.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with the running of the Tea Bar which is situated on the ground floor of Hinckley Health Centre. The Tea Bar provides drinks and snacks to service users and staff.

Any money raised goes into charitable funds for local NHS needs.


Volunteer support worker with ‘Smoothie’ Mental Health Service User Sound System

Stayfree Music Studios, Frog Island, Leicester

Thursdays 6.00pm – 8.00pm

To support the running of Smoothie, a collective of rappers, M.C.’s, poets, singers and mixers who write new material + covers, producing new performances, recordings and DVD’s.

General support of the group, support with performing, song writing, sound engineering, and playing music.

Opportunity to be involved with a wonderful sound system whilst supporting mental health service users with developing as musicians, song writers, and performers and to be involved with very successful, socially inclusive project, to develop new skills as a voluntary support worker, to meet mental health service users in a very positive way, and to develop your own musical and song writing skills.

You will be given a short induction + supported within the role. There may be opportunities to access professional training and mentoring outside of the group.


Volunteer support worker with The Fosse Music Collective

Fosse Community Centre - the band rehearses in the music studio at the community centre

Mondays 12.30 – 2.30pm 

Support us to run The Fosse Music Collective, a band of mental health service users who write new material and rehearse cover music for recordings and public performances.

This is an opportunity to be involved with a very successful, socially inclusive project, whilst developing new skills.

Support the group with sound engineering, playing music, and writing new material.


 – Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s charity

Raising Health supports Leicestershire Partnership Trust by generating income to support excellent care initiatives, equipment and innovations which go above and beyond core NHS provision to enhance the experience of our patients, service users and staff. We are looking for volunteers to support the work of the charity.

 Fundraising Event Volunteer

Various LPT locations - dependant on the task, locations throughout Leicester City, Leicestershire County & Rutland. Admin tasks would take place at Trust Head Quarters (Riverside House, Thurmaston, Leicester)

The timing of the events will vary. Many events will take place at weekends; however, we will also be looking for volunteers that can help out during the week and in the evenings.

 Role purpose: To support the smooth running of our events by working with staff and other volunteers, providing a friendly and helpful service to our supporters and members of the public. To help us maximise the opportunities to raise money and awareness for the Raising Health charity.

 Public Collections Volunteer

 Locations throughout Leicester City, Leicestershire County & Rutland.

Hours - as much or as little time as you have – this may be one hour or more. We would contact you when we have a collection organised and check if you are able to attend.

Role purpose: To take part in authorised collections at venues such as supermarkets and sporting venues, and to raise as much money as possible to support our work and to raise awareness of the charity and its appeals.


Arts and Crafts Fundraising Volunteers

We are holding a craft stall in early December to raise funds to equip, support and develop our volunteer workforce.

We are looking for volunteers to make items for the stall. This might include sewing, knitting or crocheted crafts as well as handmade cards, soap and candles for example.

To support an external charity that runs a volunteering session for patients. This will include talking to patients, helping them to achieve the packing task, counting, checking quality control and helping to maintain a friendly, inclusive welcoming atmosphere in line with the charity's values.


Ward Assistant volunteers

Main duties include supporting the ward housekeeper at meal times and conversing with patients

Areas available at the moment at various times:
