CAMHS Family Therapy Service
Family therapy – or to give it its full title, Family and Systemic Psychotherapy – helps people in close relationships to help each other.
Children and young people known to CAMHS can be referred for CAMHS family therapy by their lead professional within CAMHS.
Referral criteria
Children and young people known to CAMHS can be referred for CAMHS family therapy by their lead professional within CAMHS.
CAMHS also offers a community family therapy service. This self-referral service is suitable for families where children and young people do not meet the threshold for specialist CAMHS, but may be exposed to multiple risk factors for developing poor mental health. Our family therapists aim to work preventatively to decrease the likelihood of the children and young people developing mental health issues that necessitate their referral into specialist CAMHS. Children and young people can also access community family therapy following their discharge from specialist CAMHS.
The person referred to CAMHS family therapy needs to be under the age of 18 years. There needs to be identified relationship and/or communication issues. See referral form below.

There must be identified relationship and/or communication factors regardless of other diagnoses.
